Exciting News! On Sunday, April 4th we will be taking up a special Green Light Initiative offering for "Reach Canmore." The finances given will go towards planting a good news community in the heart of Canmore in the Spring/Summer of 2010. Please come prepared to give!
What Is the Green Light Initiative?
The Green Light Initiative is the dream of God for the First Assembly community. Our goal is to plant five new Kingdom Communities (churches or an expression thereof) in the next three years. The hope is that these communities would have tremendous impact on the emerging generation. The Green Light Initiative represents a move forward in the most economic way possible!
How Will This Happen?
We are seeking and asking of the Holy Spirit to show us opportunities that exist. With His guidance and direction, there is a plan to be more effective with our financial and human resources.
The Green Light Idea
Diversify Our Model. We're looking at multi-site, satellites, autonomous and hybrids; not sticking to any one model. We will always try to maintain fluidity when putting together these communities.
Empowering Bi-Vocational Leaders. A bi-vocational leader is someone who is a marketplace minister who desires to lead a community of people. They will remain in their current career while also being a Pastor to a group of believers.
Accessing Pre-existent Pastoral Care and Spiritual Formation. As a resource to our bi-vocational leaders, all of these communities will use First Assembly for their continued spiritual formation and Pastoral Care.
Benefiting From Established Administration. Again, as a resource to our bi-vocational leaders, all administration will be handled by First Assembly.
Capitalizing On Existing Locations. As you know building any new building takes massive amounts of energy, planning, resources and money. Our goal is to always use pre-existing locations to gather allowing us to accelerate expansion while reducing costs.
Discovering Key Partners. We have started a new discipleship school, Sanctus Paths To Leadership, to help identify future church planters. Because this is a "Kingdom" endeavor, we will look for and embrace key ministry partnerships within our community to help the dream along. This is not about ownership, this is about a "King and a Kingdom".
Removing Non-Essential Baggage. Our goal is to make these new gatherings organic and allow the Holy Spirit to drive the content and ministry that will take place.
What Have We Done So Far?
We have already started! On October 10, 2008, we successfully launched the Freedom House Campus located at the Calgary Dream Centre on Macleod Trail. First Assembly designated Jeff & Angie Fry to be the bi-vocational Campus Pastors and they are doing incredibly well! Their services start 10:00am every Sunday on 4510 Macleod Trail South. Secondly, on March 29, 2009, we partnered with Pastors Zac and Craig Eagle to plant "Kensington Church of Hope" in the community of Kensington here in Calgary. Their church gathers on Sunday afternoons at 4:00pm, in Parish Hall at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, 1407 - 7 Ave NW.
Ways To Get Involved
There are many ways to get involved with The Green Light Initiative. Many have partnered with us by giving of their time and resources while others have powerfully prayed with us and for us. There are many volunteer opportunities at each First Assembly community and you may be the right person for the task! Visit on of our ministry pages and become involved today! If you wish to partner with us financially, you can give on this website or at the Reception Desk and designate it to "The Green Light Initiative".
Summary
So as you can see, God is on the move here at First Assembly. We have great love for the emerging generations and we want to thank YOU for partnering with us as we move forward. We believe this to be a great strategy for expanding His Kingdom in the city of Calgary and to the ends of the earth. We invite you to partner with us in this endeavor and give this initiative a "green light"!
